An Introduction to Learning 2.0 and Its Impact on Foodservice Operations
Jim Javenkoski, Ph.D.
Director, Enabling Technologies for Learning
National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF)
Sunday / Monday
Traditionally the foodservice industry has developed and delivered learning opportunities to its workforce through highly structured, scheduled group events. With the emergence of several new technologies, individuals are now able to learn more informally and collaboratively than ever before. Their experience with on-demand technologies has made possible a dramatic shift in the way workplace learning occurs.
The enabling technologies and methods for accessing and sharing knowledge are collectively known as “Learning 2.0.” Through them, foodservice operators can now offer more opportunities for learning and enrichment to their workforces, leading to improved employee performance and retention. This 90-minute breakout session will briefly examine several “Learning 2.0” technologies, illustrate the methods of collaborative “workflow learning,” and discuss the impact on learning governance and learning activities in the foodservice workplace.
